“The real discovery was Brady, focused, perfect diction, lyrical, lusciously toned and impeccably stylish”
Seen and Heard International

“Extremely convincing as the Novice, with a clear, youthful, yet powerful voice and nuanced singing.”
Forum Opera, ‘The Story of Billy Budd Sailor’, Festival d’Aix-en-Provence 2025

“Silken but robust tenor matched by a host of effective dramatic touches that fleshed out the role” The Arts Desk

“Hugo Brady sang with engaging lyricism, fine attention to the words and stylish bravura”
Planet Hugill

“…Brady’s voice was laudably strong throughout his registers. This is no easy aria, with wide leaps and much mobility; Brady took it all in his stride, and more.”

A charming Novice, tormented but also responsible for one of the most beautiful scenic moments of the opera. The beauty of Brady’s kiss is fully linked to the beauty of his vocal composition: a character who could be pure and moral, but who later disappoints us with his frailty. His attempt to betray Budd had, in his voice, that kind of shame — heard in the withheld vibrato, the hesitancy in the attacks — that was everything we needed. OperaWire
