Winner of the 2022 Junior Kathleen Ferrier Competition, London-Irish tenor Hugo Brady studies at the Royal College of Music, under the tutelage of Russell Smythe, as the Victor and Lilian Hochhauser Scholar. He is also supported by the Josephine Baker Trust, and is a Samling Artist and an Oxford Song Young Artist. 

Brady began singing aged eight, as a member of the Royal Opera House’s Youth Opera Company, singing in the children’s choruses of operatic favourites such as La Bohème and Carmen. Since then, Brady has studied at the Centre for Young Musicians, winning first prize at both the New Talent British International Youth Music Competition and the Louis Watt Memorial Competition during his time there. He was most recently awarded the Prix de l’Académie de la ville de Ciboure at the Festival Ravel in Saint-Jean-de-Luz. 

As a tenor, he as appeared with Nevill Holt Opera and the Manchester Camerata, at the Aldeburgh Festival and at Barbican Hall with the LSSO. Performing with the ensemble most recently at the Wigmore Hall, Brady is also an Associate Artist of The Mozartists, with whom he will soon debut the role of Befliore in La Finta Giardiniera at Cadogan Hall. He has appeared in masterclasses with Sir Thomas Allen, Bernarda Fink, Roderick Williams and Veronique Gens, among others. For Brunswick Vocal Arts, he has recently performed a recital with pianist Simon Lepper. In 2024-25, Brady becomes an Oxford Song Young Artist, performing in recitals and masterclasses throughout the festivals, alongside artists such as Sarah Connolly and Graham Johnson. Also on the recital platform, this year includes an exciting debut at the LIFE Victoria Festival in Barcelona.

ABOUT HUGO

Born in 2002, London-Irish tenor Hugo Brady completed his bachelor’s degree at the Royal College of Music in June 2025 where he will continue his studies towards his master under the tutelage of Russell Smythe as an ABRSM scholar. During his time at the RCM, he had the pleasure of performing with Nevill Holt Opera and the Manchester Camerata, as well as with the Aldeburgh Festival, and with LSSO at Barbican Hall. Hugo further participated in masterclasses with Sir Thomas Allen, Bernarda Fink, Roderick Williams and Veronique Gens, among others.

In season 2024-25, Hugo Brady was chosen as an Associate Artist of The Mozartists, with whom he performed a complete Jommelli programme at Wigmore Hall and recently debuted the role of Belfiore in Mozart’s La Finta Giardiniera at Cadogan Hall. Brady was further selected as a Rising Star of the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment and as a Samling Artist. As a Young Artist of the Oxford International Song Festival, he had the pleasure of performing alongside Sarah Connolly and
pianist Graham Johnson. Already an appreciated Lied interpreter, he gave recitals at the Brunswick Vocal Arts with pianist Simon Lepper and at the LIFE Victoria festival in Barcelona with pianist Mark Rogers. Summer 2025 will see Brady make his debut at the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence as The Novice in the new production of The Story of Billy Budd, Sailor under the direction and adaptation of Ted Huffman, as well as his participation in the Festival’s Académie. Hugo will then continue to Switzerland and take part in the Verbier Festival’s Atelier Lyrique, where he will perform Triquet in a concert version of Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin with the Verbier Festival Junior Orchestra under the baton of Stanislav Kochanovsky.

Season 2025/26 will see further debuts a.o. Handel’s Messiah with the Philharmonie Zuid and the Stavanger Symphonie as well as Bach’s St Matthew Passion with the Residentie Orkest, all under the baton of Peter Dijkstra. Hugo will return to Cadogan Hall with the Mozartists performing highlights from operas written in 1775 by Mozart, Haydn and J.C. Bach, and appear with the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment singing Bach’s cantata Wo soll ich fliehen hin at King’s Place. On the recital stage and with pianist Mark Rogers, Brady will return to the Oxford International Song Festival with an Irish-inspired program and to Wigmore Hall to join the Samling Institute for a showcase song recital. At the end of the season, Hugo Brady returns to the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence for an opera world premiere.
